UNITED WAY OF POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY

ORGANIZES DAYS OF CARING

APRIL 19, 2023, Shawnee, OK – The United Way of Pottawatomie County (UWPC) has completed their annual service project, Days of Caring.

170 volunteers gathered together to complete 16 projects at local non-profit agencies.  This resulted in over 250 volunteer hours over a 3-day period, from March 28 through March 30.

The non-profits that benefitted from UWPC Days of Caring included American Red Cross, Community Market of Pottawatomie County, Community Renewal of Pottawatomie County, Legacy Parenting Center, Meals on Wheels, Project SAFE, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Shawnee Bridges out of Poverty, Shawnee Family YMCA, South Central Industries, and Pottawatomie County 4-H.

Volunteering included projects such as serving dinner at Shawnee Bridges, painting curbs at the YMCA, serving clients at Community Market, delivering Meals on Wheels, and even stuffing hundreds of eggs to help Community Renewal prepare for their community egg hunt!

United Way of Pottawatomie County hosted an Appreciation Lunch to celebrate these volunteers and partner agencies on March 30.  The luncheon was held at the First United Bank Community Room and attendees enjoyed the Special Kneads Food Truck. Sponsors of the event included Arvest Bank, BancFirst, The Clinic Pharmacy, First United Bank, Gordon Cooper Technology Center, Navigating Medicare, Pottawatomie Telephone Company, Shawnee Milling, and SSM Heath St. Anthony Hospital Shawnee.

Sandy Vanderburg, Executive Director of UWPC, said “United Way of Pottawatomie County was happy to bring back Days of Caring this year!  Local businesses and organizations signed up teams to volunteer at our non-profit partner agencies.  It is amazing that we were able to provide over 250 hours of volunteer service in just three days!  We received positive feedback that the non-profit agencies were grateful for the help, and the volunteers had fun serving their community while learning about the lasting impact these agencies are creating.”

“Legacy Parenting Center is proud to be a United Way Partner Agency, and we are grateful for the collaboration between agencies and donors,” says Lacey Holt, Executive Director of Legacy Parenting Center.  “Days of Caring volunteers help us behind the scenes so we can give our Legacy client families a meaningful experience.  From packaging diapers, to putting together toys and outfits for The Legacy Store, we are thankful for their attention to detail.”
