This was the central finding of a study by researchers at the University of Zurich and the Swiss federal technology institute ETH Zurich and published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The researchers surveyed more than 700 people about job demands, time spent volunteering and work-life balance.
Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in the Statesman Journal's question & answer session with local nonprofit leaders. The Statesman recognizes that the work done by nonprofits ripples through the community to provide long-lasting change, and more importantly - hope. While some might get discouraged by the complexity of the issues we face as a community, I know we can make a real difference individually and collectively.

Children entering their first years of regular schooling have to be prepared to interact with other children, control themselves, and cooperate with their peers. Skills like these cannot be learned until children take their first steps into kindergarten. Programs provide children with opportunities to play and learn with other kids outside of a school environment.
